Soering witness testimony video

(by Angela Hatcher, WSLS-TV, Roanoke, March 23, 2011, Link)

WSLS has obtained video of the testimony convicted double murderer Jens Soering hopes will help convince the governor to let him out of prison, before that video is made available to other news outlets.

In a sworn statement to Soering's attorney, Tony Buchanan says Elizabeth Haysom and an unknown man picked up a car that had been towed to his shop in 1985, months after Derek and Nancy Haysom were murdered.

Buchanan says he didn't know who Elizabeth was at the time.  Buchanan states the man with her looked nothing like Jens Soering.

Buchanan claims the car was bloody and their was a knife inside.

"My feeling on it is, the guy who was with the car had something to do with the murders," says Buchanan.  "The guy who was with the car definitely was not Soering."

Buchanan says he told both the judge and investigator in the case about what happened at his shop.  Both those men deny having talked to Buchanan.

Former Bedford County Sheriff Carl Wells, who was sheriff during the Soering case, said he had never heard of Buchanan's story until Tuesday.

"If someone brought a vehicle into me that had blood all over it, I'd be calling the police before I put my hands on it," Wells said Wednesday.

Jens Soering is a German author who spent more than 33 years in American and British prisons for a double-murder he did not commit.
